4 GAF Components Required

GAF HDZ Shingle

GAF HDZ Shingle – Standard architectural shingle, more visual depth and dimension and thicker than a 3-tab shingle. Very strong adhesive that bonds well to prevent moisture intrusion and wind damage.

GAF Pro-Start Starter Shingle

GAF Pro-Start Starter Shingle is used on eaves and rakes instead of a standard shingle flipped upside down. The benefit is that this is a special component designed to be installed prior to the first row of shingles and has adhesive on both the top and bottom. This helps the first row and edge of the roof to adhere and sit tightly in place for a cleaner look while helping prevent wind damage.

GAF Seal-a-Ridge or GAF Timbertex Ridge Cap

This is a specially formulated ridge and hip shingle. It is thicker to provide more protection, a clean finish, and a nice profile to cap off your roofing system. Timbertex is thicker and used when replacing designer shingles or existing high profile ridge caps.

GAF Synthetic Underlayment

We use GAF Synthetic Underlayment instead of tar paper. It does not rip or tear, lays flatter, and is less prone to telegraphing lines on the roof. It is water resistant and does not let water soak through. Additionally, it is UV resistant for up to 180 days in case it was exposed after shingles coming off of the roof. Breathable materials are used which allow humidity to breath out.

GAF Designer Shingles

GAF also offers higher grade shingles and are typically an upgrade with additional costs. Some of these can be significantly more expensive.

*Current designer shingle production has significantly decreased since COVID-19. Price and availability are subject to change. *
